Description
7JK is a Kanak music group originating from Pombei, a tribe located in the commune of Touho, in New Caledonia. Its name refers to the association of seven young Kanaks who formed it.
For over fifteen years, the group performed at community festivals, fairs, and various events organized in New Caledonia. Their meeting with the Mangrove label marked an important step in their journey and led to the release of their first album, Diapason, in 2014.
The album was a great success, particularly thanks to the track "Les Aires du pays" (The Lands of the Country). This song references the eight customary lands of New Caledonia and helped to introduce A7JK to a wider audience. It was accompanied by a music video directed by Terence Chevrin.
In 2015, A7JK received five awards at the Flèches de la musique, a particularly remarkable performance in the history of this Caledonian music ceremony.
The group continued its discographic journey with the release of the album L'Arrêt public in 2016. JY Pawoap, member of A7JK, also regularly collaborates with reggae artist Marcus Gad.
