Description
Allégnat' & Alfa is a musical group from New Caledonia, created in Nouméa by Stanley Moueaou and his daughter. A songwriter, singer, and musician, Stanley Moueaou is also known as one of the two singers of the group Kass Pa, from Hienghène.
With Allégnat' & Alfa, Stanley Moueaou is developing a project distinct from Kass Pa, based on the fusion of ska, reggae, and kaneka. The group also incorporates elements of "aéaé," an ancestral Kanak singing form. This musical fusion is known as "skanéka," a term derived from the words "ska" and "kaneka."
Allégnat' & Alfa's first album, titled Skanéka, was released on December 1, 2018 under the Mangrove Productions label. It includes ten songs, among them Misère, Ivre & mort, Sans abri, Liberté, Sois fier, Laisse-moi une chance and Dis-moi oui.
The group's compositions address topics related to New Caledonian society and daily life. The song "Ivre & mort" (Drunk & Dead) deals specifically with the consequences of drunk driving on New Caledonian roads.
Stanley Moueaou provides vocals and plays guitar and keyboards. For the recording of Skanéka, he is joined by Teva Avae on ukulele, Malépe Moueaou and Séphora Alébat on backing vocals, and Solomon Islands-based producer DJ Liamz on programming. The album was recorded at Studio Mangrove in Nouméa, then mixed and mastered by Derek Métivier at Mixtup Studio in Auckland, New Zealand.
