Ceneraw is a kaneka group originating from Maré, also known as Nengone, in the Loyalty Islands of New Caledonia. The group brings together musicians from different regions of the island, notably from Kurin, in the Pénélo district, and from Wakuarory, in the Guahma district.

The name Ceneraw symbolizes the meeting of sea and land. "Ce" is presented as the diminutive of the word cele, meaning "sea," "ne" means "and," while "raw" comes from rawa, which designates the land. This name refers to the geographical origins of the group's members, some coming from a coastal tribe and others from an inland tribe.

Founded in 2016, Ceneraw develops a unique island style of kaneka, blending reggae, traditional music, melodic guitar arpeggios, and vocal harmonies characteristic of Nengone. The group presents music as a means of creating connections between the different communities and customary regions of Maré.

That same year, Ceneraw released their first album, Hnoresa. This recording allowed the group to gain recognition among the New Caledonian public and earned them the Flèche de la musique award in the "Revelation of the Year" category.

Hnoresa's repertoire includes the songs Melody, Soyreko, Kanaky, and Asoa. The compositions blend the rhythms of Kaneka and reggae with traditional sounds and vocal harmonies from Maré.

Ceneraw continued their journey with a second album, Mon pays, released in 2018. This ten-track album includes Ha ci ded, Gularo, Yelo, Nengone, L'Ancêtre, Jéluziso, Namanashen, and the title track, Mon pays. It maintains the group's Nengone musical identity while offering more varied compositions and interpretations.

Through its name, its origins, and its songs, Ceneraw highlights the encounter between the coastal populations and those of the interior of Maré. The group thus contributes to the transmission of Kaneka music and the promotion of Nengone musical culture.
