Djunya is a Kaneka group originating from the Hmelek tribe, in the Lössi district, on the island of Lifou in New Caledonia. Active since the mid-1990s, the group develops music deeply linked to Drehu culture and language.

The band is led by François Uka, known as Akoz, the singer and principal songwriter. His voice, described as one of Djunya's defining characteristics, has been a constant presence throughout the group's career since its earliest recordings. Claude Wahnawe also contributes to the songwriting and vocals.

Over the years, Djunya's lineup has evolved. The group has gradually renewed itself around young musicians from Hmelek, mentored by Akoz and Claude. This structure allows the repertoire, musical practices, and expertise developed by the group to be passed on to new generations.

Music platforms list, among others, the albums Sanejea, Paradise, and Sineisola. The latter, released in 2016, is presented as Djunya's sixth album. It features eleven songs and celebrates mothers and women of the country, its title meaning "queens."

The album Sineisola combines compositions by François Uka and Claude Wahnawe with those of Robert Hmeune and Sylvain Wassa. Its tracks include Nöjeng, Tim, Dredrehnyma, Iaai, Zinya, Pollution, Mahekôlô and Yhmahma.

Through their songs in Drehu and the participation of young artists from Lifou, Djunya's journey is rooted in a process of creation and transmission. The group thus contributes to keeping the Kaneka music of Lifou alive while renewing its structure across generations.
