Hnatr Buama is a kaneka singer, songwriter, and composer from the Nang tribe on Lifou Island in New Caledonia. Her career is closely linked to that of Gurejele, and later to the duo Dick & Hnatr, which she formed with her husband, singer and musician Dick Buama.

In the early 1990s, she participated in the formation of Gurejele with Dick Buama and several young musicians from Maré. Within the group, she primarily contributed vocals and harmonies. Gurejele released its first album, Wabeb Bulu, in 1993, before continuing with several albums throughout the 1990s and early 2000s.

After the end of this first period with Gurejele, Hnatr Buama developed a repertoire under his own name. His first solo album, Le temps qui passe (Time Passing), was released in the early 2000s by Mangrove Productions. The album includes the songs Nymu Mejen, Mifasol, La leçon d'histoire (The History Lesson), Atru Neje, Itre Mama, Le temps qui passe, and the bonus track Suyelelo.

The album credits attribute to Hnatr Buama the writing or composition of several tracks, alone or with Dick Buama. She is accompanied by musicians including Bernard Uedre, Georges Buama, Stéphane Fernandez, John Chaliot, Daniel Wagada, Alexis Buama, Charles Wadrawane, Jules Guaenere and Antoine Buama.

Hnatr continues his journey in parallel with Dick Buama. Under the name Dick & Hnatr, the couple notably published Eau claire in 2005. Hnatr provides the vocals and signs or co-signs several tracks, including Wa Tube Tace, Inu Ha Ci Hue, Wa Corilen, Peko Atr Kaloi, Volontaire, Zoi Drei and Ma raison.

In 2008, Dick & Hnatr toured France. A concert recorded at the New Morning in Paris was subsequently released on CD and DVD. Hnatr notably performed Nymu Mejen, a song for which she is credited as both author and composer.

In 2009, she released her second solo album, Les squats de l'espoir (Squats of Hope). The album includes ten tracks: Weokiou, Les squats de l'espoir, Lanesera, Marijuana, Kaka, We Mama Fe, Orengo, Mon pays (My Country), Ciroigu, and Tenegu. Hnatr Buama wrote or composed the majority of these songs, either alone or with Dick Buama.

For this album, she is accompanied by, among others, Dick Buama, Saono Hamu, Eddie Waimo, Jeremy Hoye, Waga Nekotrotro, Emma Wayenece, Manouchka Saihuluwa, Aki Mataika, and Louis Perez. The recording took place at Mangrove Studios, followed by mixing and mastering at Mixt Up Studios in Auckland.

In January 2010, Dick & Hnatr performed at the Festival au désert in Mali. The music video for Lanesera, a song written and composed by Hnatr Buama, was filmed during this event.

The duo continued their discography with Angaishola in 2011, then Deko pareu ri ci ran in 2013. Hnatr also participated in 2014 in WOMAD New Caledonia with Dick Buama.

Dick and Hnatr's collaboration then continued within a family setting. In 2022, they released the Buama Family EP with Jimmy and Willy Buama. Hnatr performed Wa Cuculesegu on the EP, a track attributed to him.

Hnatr Buama's career thus encompasses three complementary dimensions: her participation in Gurejele, her solo discography, and her work as a duo with Dick Buama. Available credits also demonstrate her role as a songwriter and composer, in addition to her singing career.
