Born under the sign of the coconut tree, I NU invites you to stop over on the island of Lifou and the peaceful beach of Peng, where the giant Pacific borders the tribe of Hapetra.
A popular meeting place for the island's inhabitants, welcoming to foreign visitors;
a space for sharing music.
Its unique atmosphere permeates the compositions of the duo, guided by the strength of Kanak myths, its openness to the whole world and powerful family artistic legacies.
Hnawejë Canehmez is originally from Hapetra, whose Melanesian folk group Bethela contributed to its fame, but it was on other shores that he met Marianne: those of the Seine, in Rouen, Normandy.
Guided by instinct, I Nu adorns his music with multiple facets and colors it in turn with bossa-nova, jazz, soul, folk, blues, reggae, while drawing from the fantastic pool of (choral) and rhythmic traditions of the Loyalty Islands of New Caledonia.
The subtle blend of the two singers' timbres propels the lyrics in qene drehu
(one of the 28 Kanak languages), French, English.
The expression, intimate like a story told in a hut, is carried by a refreshing interplay of acoustic guitar or ukulele strings.

Excellent musicians have accompanied I Nu since the beginning of the adventure, such as the very versatile Gustave Wayenece (bass, drums, backing vocals...) who currently accompanies the duo.
Enjoying all audiences with sunny pleasure, a fan of stripped-down acoustic formulas that enhance their score, I Nu has released an album (2017) as well as an EP (2019) and a new reggae opus ONO ROOTS released in September 2023.

Depending on demand, the duo can be augmented by other musicians for live performances with bass, drums, percussion, keyboard and saxophone.
