Description
Born from an old friendship transformed into musical complicity, rooted in the soil of an Oceanian culture, the group KAORI, formed essentially of Alexis DIAWARI and Thierry FOLCHER, chose to represent it the thousand-year-old tree of the same name, a symbol of rootedness and openness to the world.
On an island where myth and reality share a shifting and permeable border, they took their time to explore the multiple influences that reached them like distant echoes, digesting them and rendering them in this original form which now constitutes their own style, recognizable among thousands: a melodic, rhythmic and poetic alliance that invites you on a journey, not without lucidity however.
Authoritative voices have already paid a strong tribute to their first two albums, "Aux îles fortunées" and "À ciel ouvert":
Culture Box: "a timeless album" - 11 escapist songs whose originality lies sometimes in the melody, sometimes in the writing; between the agility of the guitar, the gentleness and the poetry.
Hexagone (quarterly music magazine): "Exotic and refreshing, their French songs are bathed in sunshine with a successful cocktail of ballads, bossa nova, and blues. Worth discovering."
La Chaîne Guitare: "A very successful mix. Well-balanced music with beautiful melodies and lyrics. A little blues, a little pop, a little French chanson."
Nouvelle Vague magazine: "A Caledonian duo who skillfully create music imbued with their rich and varied life experiences... Their level of professionalism is intriguing."
PhenixWebTV: "A timeless album with socially conscious lyrics that you can listen to in one sitting. We highly recommend the track 'Une terre nouvelle' (A New Land), which is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful ballads we've heard this year."
Paris Move: "A musical signature that makes the duo a pair that few artists can rival."
Now recognized and widely distributed in their native island, having won the award for best Folk-Rock album in 2019 ("A ciel ouvert"), and eager to abolish the tyranny of distance, they are turning their gaze beyond the Coral Reef towards Europe and the rest of the world. An expanded Francophone space fosters the vibrant expression of cultural diversity, in the face of a global context of deadly homogenization of thought and lifestyles.
The year 2024 is dedicated to the promotion of their 3rd album, like the previous ones recorded in Colombes, Paris region, in Lionel GAILLARDIN's Bonsaï studio with the same exceptional musicians.
