Description
Lueni is a kaneka and reggae group from Ouvéa, New Caledonia, led by singer and songwriter Théo Watiligone. Their repertoire blends kaneka, reggae and more melodic pieces, with a strong connection to the island's music scene.
The group is notably associated with the albums I mata boena, Waceca and Taou fooû. The first two were produced in the EHM catalogue, now taken over by Mangrove Productions.
After a long hiatus from releasing new albums, Lueni returned in 2017 with Taou fooû. Théo Watiligone played a central role in the writing and composition, alongside Daniel Watiligone and Victorin Watiligone, among others. The album features ten tracks, including Taou fooû, Léfou, Newelly, Miles, Wainengala, Mako nei, Honneur aux femmes, Suzina, Un don du ciel, and Collégiens lycéens.
Alongside Lueni, Théo Watiligone also supports a new generation of musicians from Ouvéa. He notably participated in the first album of Suamata, a group from the Héo tribe, and Mangrove also mentions links with Hobané.
